Closure vs Frontal — The Question That Confuses Every Buyer
You are browsing wigs and you see: "4x4 Closure Wig" and "13x4 Frontal Wig." Same hair, different price. What is the difference? Which one should you pick? This guide will make it completely clear.
What is a Closure?
A closure is a small piece of lace — typically 4 inches wide by 4 inches deep (4x4) — placed at the top center or side of the wig. It closes off the install, meaning no leave-out of your natural hair is needed. The parting is fixed, usually in the middle or a side part.
The "4x4" describes the size of the lace patch. You will also see 5x5 closures which give slightly more parting space.
What is a Frontal?
A frontal is a full lace panel that spans your entire hairline from ear to ear — typically 13 inches wide by 4 inches deep (13x4). This gives you a full natural hairline across the entire front of your head, and allows you to part the hair anywhere within that 13-inch window.
HD frontals are the most popular choice for Ghana's skin tones because the ultra-thin lace disappears on warm complexions.

Which Should You Choose?
Choose a Closure if:
- You prefer a simple, consistent part (middle or side)
- You are newer to wigs and want less maintenance
- You want an everyday wig that is easy to install and wear
- You are price-conscious — closure wigs are almost always cheaper
Choose a Frontal if:
- You love styling variety — different parts, sleek-backs, deep sides
- You want the most natural-looking hairline from every angle
- You plan to wear the wig in a sleek ponytail style
- You want baby hairs styled across your full edge
What is a 360 Frontal?
A 360 frontal wraps all the way around the head — not just the front. This allows a ponytail or bun without any cap showing. It is less common than 13x4 but great for women who frequently wear updos. It requires the most skill to install correctly.
Can You Tell the Difference When Installed?
A well-installed closure wig and frontal wig both look natural from the front. The main tell is parting flexibility — with a closure, your part is fixed. With a frontal, you can switch up your look in seconds. If you are someone who likes variety, the frontal is worth the extra investment.
