How to Install a Lace Front Wig Step by Step (Beginner's Guide Ghana)

You Don't Need a Stylist — You Need the Right Guide

Installing a lace front wig for the first time can feel overwhelming. Between the glue, the scissors, the baby hairs, and the fear of ruining a GH₵1,000+ investment — it is completely normal to hesitate. But here is the truth: thousands of women in Accra, Kumasi, and Tema install their own wigs every single week. With the right steps and the right products, you can do it too.

This guide is written specifically for Ghana's climate. Accra's heat and humidity change everything — from which adhesive holds best to how you prep your skin.

What You Need Before You Start

Gather these tools before you begin. Trying to hunt for items mid-install is how mistakes happen.

  • Lace front wig (your Hair Aura unit)
  • Wig cap (nude/beige — closest to your skin tone)
  • Lace glue or got2b Glued spray — got2b is widely available in Accra and works well in humidity
  • Sharp scissors — small cuticle scissors are best for lace trimming
  • Edge brush and fine-tooth comb
  • Hair pins / clips
  • Alcohol wipes or skin prep wipe — removes oil so glue bonds properly
  • Blow dryer

Step 1: Prepare Your Natural Hair

Your natural hair must be flat before the wig goes on. Braiding it down in flat cornrows (front to back) is the gold standard — it creates the flattest base and protects your edges. If your hair is short, a wig cap alone may be enough.

Once your hair is flat, put on your wig cap and stretch it over your head. The cap should sit right at your hairline — not pushed back. Use bobby pins to secure it at the front and sides.

Step 2: Prepare Your Skin (The Step Most People Skip)

This is the most skipped step — and the reason most wigs lift in Accra's heat. Take an alcohol wipe and clean along your hairline from ear to ear. This removes sweat, oils, and any moisturizer that would prevent the glue from bonding. Wait 60 seconds for it to fully dry before touching it.

Step 3: Try the Wig On First (Dry Run)

Place the wig on your head without any glue. Adjust it until the hairline sits exactly where you want it — usually about half an inch back from your natural hairline. Note which areas need trimming. Once you glue it, adjustments become very difficult, so take your time here.

Use clips to hold the wig back and mark where the lace ends on your forehead with a makeup pencil if needed.

Step 4: Trim the Lace

This step requires patience. The lace on a lace front wig extends past the hairline and must be trimmed before installation. Look at where the first row of hair starts — that is your cutting line.

Using small sharp scissors, cut in a gentle zigzag pattern (not a straight line) along the hairline. A straight cut creates a visible, harsh edge. A soft zigzag mimics the look of real skin peeking through. Leave about 2–3mm of lace past the hairline — do not cut all the way to the knots.

Step 5: Apply the Adhesive

Apply a thin layer of got2b Glued (or your preferred lace glue) along your hairline where the lace will sit. Do not glob it on — thin is better. Let it become tacky (about 60 seconds) before pressing the lace down.

Starting from the center of your forehead, press the lace down firmly, working outward toward each ear. Use the back of your edge brush to press and smooth the lace into the glue. Hold each section for 10–15 seconds.

Ghana tip: Apply a second thin layer over the lace once the first is set — this sandwiches the lace between two glue layers and dramatically improves longevity in humidity.

Step 6: Blend the Hairline

This is where your install transforms from "wig" to "hair." Use concealer or foundation one shade lighter than your skin tone along the lace. This neutralizes the lace color and makes it disappear into your skin. Blend with a small brush or sponge.

For the most natural finish, use a toothbrush dipped in water to lay your baby hairs in a C-shape or swirl pattern along the edge.

Step 7: Style and Set

Now the fun part — style your wig how you like it. Use a blow dryer on low heat to fully set the adhesive. Once set, the glue bonds become much stronger and will last through the full day even in Accra's heat.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Skipping the skin prep — your wig will lift by afternoon if you skip the alcohol wipe
  • Cutting lace with straight scissors — always zigzag for a natural edge
  • Applying too much glue — one thin tacky layer bonds better than a thick wet layer
  • Rushing the dry run — take time to position before you commit with glue
  • Not setting with a blow dryer — heat-activated adhesives need heat to fully cure

How Long Will It Last?

A properly installed lace front wig in Ghana's climate should hold for 1–3 weeks with overnight care (wrapping your hair at night). Longer wear requires professional maintenance. Always give your scalp a proper rest day with a gentle cleanse between installs.
